There are a lot of (uninformed) people who would say "aw, it's just a gussied up Camry" but it's got a LOT more class. It's smoother, quieter, has better suspension, better options, and is overall a vast improvement over a Camry, and WELL worth the extra money.

My wife opted for a Camry over the ES, as she is more of a person with the attitude that a car is for getting from here to there and luxo models are unnecessary.......OK....whatever.....

I own a Lexus, and I absolutely hate it when people say that a Lexus is just a Toyota. For most Lexus models, that's simply not the case.

.......but even I have to admit that the ES350 is the one model where the Toyota = Lexus crowd has a point. The ES350 shares the same platform with the Camry, which means the underpinnings are the same.

I drove an ES350 wanting to like it, but it was boring as hell. Drove just like a Camry.....go figure.

I ended up buying an IS, which doesn't share a platform with any Toyota. An IS (or any other Lexus, for that matter) is uniquely a Lexus - an ES is not.

My advice: if you're having second thoughts now, you'll hate the car two months after you buy it. Getting a new car is about love and excitement. If you don't love it when you buy it, it only goes downhill from there. Pass.

Good luck!

It's a great car if you want superior ride quality and comfort. It's also got quite a bit of pep to it. Not only that but it has a good reliability reputation. When Lexus came out, they gave Mercedes' S class and BMWs 7 series a run for their money with the Lexus LS400. The ES is basically the baby LS. Smaller scale everything. I say go for it if you're looking for that type of car. Of course it is FWD, and not as powerful as the RWD LS400. It IS and has always been based off of the toyota camry platform. If this stuff doesn't matter to you then you will love the car.

The Lexus ES350 has an engine that won't fail on you. Lexus' will go 150,000 miles easily. Good car.
