My mom owned both( 745Li and LS430) Well...in my opinion I'd choose bmw. One it looks great and it shows that you look well organized. A Lexus isnt so bad, but the tires are really weak. If i was to get a bmw i woul get a 750 li one because it is V12 and is at a reasonable price if you dont want to have such a car like a bmw go for the infinitis or the lexus you should think about the porsche. The lexus although features more options. The BMW is really smooth when driving if you go over a small rock you still feel the bump but soft and slow i get dizzy cause of this while on the otherhand the lexus you always feel the bump soft and fast i like how its fast because i dont get so dizzy...the looks are the bmw the lexus kinda looks like a toyota or a honda while on the other hand the bmw looks classy, well organized, and unique. They are both great, but i choose the bmw. I wouldnt go with the mercedes because they always have problems that need to be fixed. I also think that Lexus has a chanse to be the number one car with a balance with speed, elegance, and beyond standard it could be number because i think bmw and mercedes are competiting for the rank while lexus is taking their own free time.

No it depends on how you look at it, Bmw's are known for performance and the name, if you buy a bmw after the warranty expires you are looking to be in the shop about once every four months, but they handle great for racing, Lexus is equivalent in value but they hold it better, and the new IS 350 handles just like a BMW or better. Lexus is number one in reliability. There are certain Lexus’s that have a Toyota brother like the ES and the Camry V6 same engine, so you can order Toyota parts making it cheaper than to tell them you have a Lexus. Over all if I am going to spend 50 thousand on a car I would definitely buy a Lexus

They are both good manufacturers. BMW is more sporty than Lexus, but not by a large margin. BMW does sell a more expensive car compared to Lexus. Additionally, the service repair bills for BMW vehicles tend to be a bit higher as well. By and large it is just a matter of taste. BMW vehicles are usually trendy or modern and Lexus vehicles tend to be more traditional in their approach to luxury.

I wish more people would understand how Lexus is so way over rated! No personality, just bland styling & performance. How could you compare any lexus to a M3 or M5 or any BMW for that matter. A ES is only a camry with fancy leather & wood. If that inpresses you, maybe you deserve to drive a Lexus. Actually, do yourself a favour and buy a camry instead and save yourself $$$ if you must drive a jap car.

first that "automotive expert" guy is no expert obviously because you can tell he knows nothing about cars. who compares a bmw 5 series to the ES, it's comparison is the GS. the bmw 6 serious you can compare the sc430 but not in terms of price. anyways i leased the 02 lexus es 300 and currently leasing the 05 rx 330. my best friend has the BMW X5. i have driven the X5 and i will say the ride is nothing compared to the RX. the rx has a smooth quiet ride while X5 without the bumpy roads still gets bumpy. the RX interior is a much hotter design because i love the wooden trim on the steering wheel while BMW doesn't have that. i was at boarders book store today and i saw 2007 comparatives vehicles. i saw that the RX was rated much much better than the X5 on more than one categories. Lexus is by far better than BMW. the x5 is ugly but the 2008 x5 is redesigned and much hotter on the outside the the 2007 x5. in november i'm probably leasing the RX again or maybe i'm thinking of the mercedes ML, or Porsche cayenne, or benz E class, or Lexus GS.

I'm more into the sporty aspect of cars, therefore I'll answer yes. BMW's will out handle Lexus in anything.

The only way Lexus will beat BMW in my book is price, German inflation and conversion rates are very strong, which means a lot of $$$ compared to Japanese prices.

IN what category. Lexus are more of the luxury and BMW is more of the sport car. But BMW cost an *** load to fix. Way too much useless electronics

IF RELIABILITY IS HIGH ON YOUR LIST THE LEXUS IS MUCH MORE RELIABLE. BMW ARE GREAT CARS BUT HAVE RELIABILITY PROBLEM COMPARED TO THE LEXUS. THE LEXUS TO ME IS GREAT BUT LACK THE BMW DRIVING EXPERIENCE. LEXUS HAS A MORE CONSERVATIVE APPROACH TO OVERALL DRIVE EXPERIENCE--VERY LITTLE ROAD FEEL--GREAT FOR SOME --NOT FOR OTHERS. IT ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU LIKE IN A CAR.

Well according to Car and Driver Magazine nothing is better than an BMW.Well they also say that about Honda's I think they both suck. Then again I would not buy a Lexus either.

You could always go the old fashioned route and form an opinion of your own...

In terms of durability and retaining value, definitely the BMW, versus only an equivalent Lexus, of course.

I play with many high line cars for my career.....Porsche, Maserati, Lambo, Benz, BMW, Lexus, etc. And I am certified in Porsche, GM, Lexus, BMW.

If someone said....go take a car, any car.....you'd see me standing on a Lexus lot.

Lexus is its own category....BMW, Benz and others try to keep pace with them, but can't.

it depends on the model. i think lexus suvs are better. but i think bmw sedans are better, except the LS, it can park itself. Can a bmw do that.

Driven both, enjoyed the Lexus more...

BMW M5, GS300 and the LX450(SUV)... The GS300 was a sweet ride, enjoy it every chance I get... I also have driven the Mercedes SUV... It was more comfortable than the 500 series Merc.

well, they go off and off suv and sedan wise. but bmw just isnt consistent. lexus' cars are better and more consistent. price wise, they go pretty hand in hand

Overall, Yes.

If you compare the entire model line-up:

3-Series vs. IS: BMW

5-Series vs. ES: BMW

7-Series vs LS: Lexus

Lexus has no 6-series competitor and until the IS-F comes out theres really no competitor to the BMW M line up.
